Seaweed Surge Past Sturgeon 8-1

July 2 2022 The Santa Cruz Seaweed defeated the Martinez Sturgeon 8-1 behind a 15-hit attack at Harvey West Park. Santa Cruz erased an early deficit with two runs in the third inning and broke the game open with six runs in the fourth. Martinez scored its only run in the second and finished with seven hits and one error.

Mike Anthony led the Seaweed offense with three hits and two RBIs. Kairee Tekra added two hits and one RBI, while Jabari Gayle and Michael Green each drove in a run. Nick Giambalvo, Erik Mitchell, Cole Gaskey and Craig Broadman also had hits for Santa Cruz. Martinezs Alex Dailey and Albert Dominguez each collected two hits, with Dailey adding an RBI.

Broadman earned the win after allowing one run on seven hits over eight innings. He struck out 10 and walked three. J. Ortega completed the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out three. Martinez starter Brendan Flaherty took the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on 12 hits in five innings while striking out five.
