Martinez Sturgeon Edge Santa Cruz Seaweed 13-12

June 21 2022 The Martinez Sturgeon rallied past the Santa Cruz Seaweed 13-12 in a high-scoring game at Joe DiMaggio Park. Martinez overcame a 12-10 deficit after six innings by scoring once in the eighth and three times in the ninth. The Sturgeon finished with 11 hits, while Santa Cruz collected 13.

Santa Cruz struck for four runs in the first inning and added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth. Nick Giambalvo led the Seaweed attack with four hits, three runs and three RBI, including his third home run of the season and two doubles. Erik Mitchell added two hits and two RBI, while Michael Green drove in two runs.

Martinez received three hits and three RBI from Rafael Ramirez and three hits and three RBI from James Portillo. Kevin Johnson scored three runs and had two hits, while Darwin Tavarez and Cam Gardner also contributed to the Sturgeon scoring. Martinez took advantage of five Santa Cruz errors, while the Seaweed committed four errors of its own.

Manny Corpas earned the win for Martinez after allowing three hits and no runs over two innings with one strikeout. Pedro Torrealba struck out four but was charged with 12 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits over 5.2 innings. Nick Fay took the loss for Santa Cruz after surrendering three hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
