Santa Cruz Seaweed Defeat Martinez Sturgeon 9-5

July 8 2021 The Santa Cruz Seaweed defeated the Martinez Sturgeon 9-5 after building an early lead and collecting 14 hits. Santa Cruz scored four runs in the first inning, added two in the second, and extended its advantage with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Martinez scored once in the first and third innings before adding three runs in the eighth, but could not complete the comeback.

Grant Goff went 4-for-4 with three RBIs for Santa Cruz, while Joe Riddle hit a two-run home run and finished with four RBIs. Robbie Carling added two hits, including two doubles, and scored twice. Cody Nisbet contributed a hit and an RBI, and Edgar Arriola had two hits and a stolen base.

Alex Trautner earned the win after allowing six hits and five earned runs in 7.2 innings. He walked five and struck out three. James Schwenger recorded the save with 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Martinez starter Jaden France was charged with the loss after surrendering eight hits and seven earned runs in four innings, while Rene Ramirez allowed two earned runs over five innings and struck out six.

Kaelin Robinson led Martinez with two hits and three RBIs, and Caleb Natov added two hits and an RBI. Martinez finished with seven hits and received a three-run eighth inning from its offense, but Santa Cruz held the lead through the final three innings.
